Wound Care

Nearly all of us, at some point in our lives, have had a wound such as a cut, a graze, a burn or a surgical incision. We each have experienced the natural process of watching it heal over the course of a few days by keeping the area clean and covered with a simple bandage. However not all wounds heal so easily. The normal healing process can be disrupted for many reasons and some wounds can take months to heal, increasing the risk of infection, limb loss, even the loss of life. Nationally, over five million people suffer from chronic wounds.

For those that suffer from this chronic problem, there is hope for healing at the Martha Jefferson Wound Care.

Chronic wound care is complex by nature and each wound has its own individual requirements to promote healing. Thus, each patient with a chronic wound requires the right balance of specialized treatment to address his or her particular health needs, not only to encourage healing but also to prevent recurrence. Martha Jefferson Wound Care Services, directed by Lewis V. Owens, MD , a board-certified vascular surgeon with special training in wound care, provides comprehensive wound treatment that is tailored for the individual's needs.

Patients benefit from having available to them specialists in vascular surgery, general surgery, podiatry, diabetes, nutrition, physical and occupational therapy. Our goal is to provide the patient with the right balance of specialized care that addresses a particular health needs so that the wound can heal and not recur."
